Featuring magnetic snaps and a zipper closure, an interior zipper pocket, and a unique construction method that’s friendly to standard sewing machines, this pattern helps you create your own one of a kind bag to gift or to keep. Use faux leather, appliqué, or heat transfer vinyl to make a gorgeous cover and let the world know your favorite reads. Or use rivets to create a spell book with an air of mystery and magic. The possibilities are endless!
Finished bag dimensions: 10" x 8.5" x 3"
Supplies Needed:
1 yard cover fabric (vinyl or canvas recommended)
¼ yard fabric for contrast spine (optional, vinyl or canvas recommended)
1 fat quarter fabric for “pages” (off-white quilting cotton recommended)
1 yard fabric for lining (quilting cotton recommended)
1 yard woven interfacing (such as Pellon SF101)
½ yard sew-in foam interfacing
2 magnet snaps
2 D-rings
1 strap slider
2 swivel snaps
1 12” #5 zipper (or zipper tape and pull)
1 8” #3 zipper (or zipper tape and pull)
A piece of heavy chipboard at least 3” by 8.5”
Chalk or disappearing ink marker
Microtex needle (highly recommended for topstitching through layers)
Rivets (optional, for cover decoration
This is an intermediate to advanced level sewing pattern. It involves sewing zippers, interfacing, and sewing through many layers. It is recommended that beginners do a test run with quilting cotton to get familiar with the techniques.
