Frequently asked questions

Care instructions

Keep out of direct sunlight. Over time, the sun will fade the beautiful colors on your specimen. Display in (preferably) a temperature controlled environment- room temp is best but not required. Keep out of humid/moist environments to prevent molding. Avoid removing the glass dome/ shadow box backing in order to avoid wing damage by other bugs/foreign objects/improper handling. Avoid touching wings as this will remove the color (tiny little scales). Clean glass using a microfiber cloth, or shop towels and your preferred glass cleaner. Over time, seal off shadow box backs or rikers with thick tape or other to ensure an air tight seal and help preserve for even longer. Please see continued care instructions on my instagram @cloverbutterflyco

Gift wrapping and packaging

FREE-I wrap all riker mounts, & 5"x7" shadow boxes in kraft paper, with a jute ribbon, Clover Butterfly Co stamped tag, business card, sticker, and a pack of milkweed/pollinator seeds. Seeds are not included in Canada purchases or purchases requiring customs. Larger shadow boxes, domes, all other items can be wrapped in higher quality gift wrapping paper for $4 at checkout. You can also include a gift message for free.
All domes are shipped in a styrofoam mold that covers them 360 degrees, followed by lots of cushioning. All orders are shipped with multiple layers of bubble wrap and cushioned on all sides. I use recycled packing materials whenever possible.

Where do your butterflies come from?

I receive my butterflies dried and wrapped in paper. I then go through the process of rehydrating them so their wings open up, spreading them, pinning their wings into position, and finally mounting them for display. All my butterflies & moths are ethically sourced from all over the world. They are also all legally sourced and imported. Clover Butterfly Co. has a permit with US Fish & Wildlife. The butterflies and moths I work with are farm raised in enclosures, or raised in protected habitats. Sustainable farming of butterflies helps to provide jobs to locals in developing countries, as well as protect land, and rain forests from being deforested and replaced with unsound crops. I do not condone hurting any animals or insects.

Shipping/Lost/stolen package

Orders of multiple items will be combined into as few boxes as possible to minimize shipping costs. USPS insures all priority mail packages up to $100. We recommend upgrading any first class shipping to priorty for faster delivery time and insurance if necessary. Clover Butterfly Co is not responsible for packages lost by USPS, or stolen. We recommend having packages held at the post office if you cannot be home to see them delivered, as theft is at an all time high, and returns/replacements will not be provided. For more detailed tracking info pertaining to your order, please see the USPS website and enter tracking number.

Custom and personalized orders

Due to overwhelming workload and demand, I am not accepting custom orders of any kind.

Wholesale availability

I am unable to offer wholesale discounts. I’m planning on expanding in the next year though, so I am hoping to offer wholesale discounts for resellers in the future.

How are your insects ethically sourced?

I have a government permit to legally import insects from farms & sanctuaries all over the world. The permits ensure sustainable practices & help protect vulnerable wildlife populations. I don’t condone practices that decrease natural populations. Sustainable butterfly farming is supported by conservationists & scientists worldwide because it helps to preserve natural habitat from deforestation & commercial farming, helping their species continue. This also helps maintain populations of all other (thousands of)species of flora and fauna on that protected land where the butterflies are raised. Families in these areas are able to make a fair wage. It’s a beautiful system that aids in the survival and greater good of multiple species.
